Robert Heath and Sons
Robert Heath (1816–1893) leased the Knypersley minerals in 1857 and built the Biddulph Valley Colliery and Ironworks; his firm, later Robert Heath and Sons Ltd, owned at its peak 28 coal and iron mines, eight blast furnaces and the Black Bull and Biddulph Valley ironworks, employing about 5,000, and acquired Brown Lees Colliery in 1887.
