A Black Country ironmaking and colliery firm founded by Philip Williams, who built the Wednesbury Oak Ironworks at Tipton in 1820 and made Mitre Brand iron there. The family also held the Union Furnaces at West Bromwich, the Albion and Union Works at Smethwick and several collieries, employing over five thousand men by 1846.
