Penrose and Evans

George Penrose of Eaglesbush Cottage and Herbert Edward Evans of Eaglesbush, proprietors of the Eaglesbush and Gnoll collieries at Neath in the 1840s. Penrose took a fifty-year lease of the Eaglesbush minerals in 1845, gave evidence to the Children's Employment Commission, held the colliery at the time of the 1848 explosion, and was declared bankrupt in 1861.
