Nelmes, Davis and Elly

The three Forest of Dean free miners — John Nelmes of Berry Hill, John Davis of Five Acres and Richard Elly of Berry Hill — to whom the Cross Knave gale was granted in equal undivided third parts on 1 March 1841, to work coal in the Coleford High Delf. They raised the coal by one horse whim from pits thirty yards deep and sold it by country sale at ninepence a ton including royalty.
