The company incorporated in 1896 to hold the Earl of Durham's colliery interests. It merged with the Hetton interests as Lambton & Hetton Collieries Ltd in 1911 and, with the Joicey holdings added, became Lambton, Hetton & Joicey Collieries Ltd.
