A West Riding colliery firm founded by Henry Briggs, with its headquarters at Whitwood near Normanton. It registered as a limited company in 1865 expressly to share its profits with its workmen, and worked Whitwood, Water Haigh, Snydale and other pits until its colliery assets passed to Briggs Collieries Ltd at the end of 1939.
