Cairntable Gas Coal Company

A Glasgow company formed in 1871 by Thomas Barr, who had owned the Auldhouseburn pit himself, and named after the hill of Cairn Table above Muirkirk. Its offices were at 75 Bothwell Street and Barr was managing director; it also held pits at Glenbuck, three miles east, where its output was larger. Much of its coal went for gas manufacture. It appears in the Lists of Mines as the Cairntable Gas Coal Co. and later as the limited company.
