Alexander Gray Simpson

A Glasgow coal master with interests in Wishaw, Carfin, Shotts and Irvine and a founding member of the Glasgow Coal Exchange, who worked the Coltness and Carfin collieries in the late 1860s and built Carfin Hall; he emigrated to America in 1880 after a collapse in the coal trade.
