The Mines (Stardew Valley)
Fictional record. This page describes a mine from a fictional setting, not a real place. Information is based on the cited canon, with adaptations and interpretation distinguished where necessary. It is kept separate from the real MineArchive corpus — see Fictional.
| Setting | Stardew Valley (ConcernedApe (Eric Barone)) |
|---|---|
| Location | The north side of the Mountains area, northeast of Pelican Town's Carpenter's Shop and just west of the Adventurer's Guild. |
| Type | Mixed-ore and gem mine, monster-infested |
| Worked | Blocked by rock debris (a landslide) at the start of the game; opens on the 5th day of Spring, Year 1, when the player receives a letter stating the blockage has been cleared. – Not depicted as ever closing within the game -- it remains open and re-enterable indefinitely once unlocked, its floor layouts regenerating on each visit. |
| Extent | 120 numbered floors (also called levels), divided into three 40-floor sections each with its own theme -- a brown-earth section, a frozen section, and a lava-and-dark-purple section -- with the final ten floors of each section carrying a distinct sub-variant of that theme. |

Overview
The central mining location of Stardew Valley (2016), a 120-floor dungeon beneath the Mountains that the player descends to gather ore, gems and minerals -- genuinely unusual within this archive's Fictional section, since its floor layouts are procedurally regenerated on every visit rather than fixed by the game's own authored geography.
History
The Mines sit in the north of the Mountains area, blocked by a rockslide until the player receives a letter, in-game, on the 5th day of Spring in their first year, reporting that the obstruction has been cleared. On first entering, the player meets Marlon of the Adventurer's Guild, who gifts them a rusty sword and sets them on the path of exploring the mine. The 120 floors are divided into three broad sections of 40 floors each, distinguished by theme -- a brown-earth section nearest the surface, a frozen section in the middle depths, and a lava-and-dark-purple section at the bottom -- with each section's final ten floors carrying a darker or otherwise distinct variant of its main theme. Ore type and quantity increase with depth, and floors are periodically 'infested' with monsters that must be cleared before a ladder to the next level will appear. A dwarf character lives behind a blocked passage reachable from one of the upper floors, requiring a steel pickaxe or explosives to reach. Unlike a fixed dungeon, each individual floor's layout, resource placement and monster spawns are procedurally regenerated by the game every time the player descends -- only the broad structure (120 floors, three themed sections, elevator checkpoints every five floors) is fixed by the game's own design.
Workings
Worked by the player character alone, using a pickaxe to break rock for stone, ore and geodes, and a hoe on dirt patches for minerals, artifacts, clay and forageable items; ladders connecting floors are revealed by clearing rock or defeating monsters, with elevator checkpoints available at every floor that is a multiple of five.
What became of it
Remains open and freely re-enterable throughout the game; a lower-depth extension, the Skull Cavern, is unlocked later in the game for players seeking greater risk and reward beyond the Mines' own 120th floor.
Canon & adaptations
This record covers Stardew Valley (2016) as originally released; the game has received substantial content updates since, some of which (not verified in detail this pass) may add further mine-adjacent content. Genuinely distinct from every other record in this archive's Fictional section: rather than one fixed, authored geography, each floor of the Mines is procedurally regenerated by the game on every visit, so no single 'true' layout exists to describe -- this record accordingly focuses on the mine's fixed structural facts (floor count, sections, access, mechanics) rather than any one specific descent.
Recorded claims
Each claim is marked with its basis — explicit canon, MineArchive inference, adaptation only, or fandom interpretation — and attached to the source(s) below. Where tellings disagree, both are kept.
- The Mines are blocked by a rockslide at the start of the game and open on the 5th day of Spring, Year 1, when the player receives a letter reporting the blockage has been cleared; Marlon of the Adventurer's Guild gifts the player a rusty sword on their first visit. (explicit canon) 1
- The Mines have 120 floors divided into three 40-floor sections -- brown-earth, frozen, and lava-and-dark-purple -- each with a distinct sub-variant covering its final ten floors, with ore type and quantity increasing with depth. (explicit canon) 1
- Unlike a conventional fixed dungeon, each floor's specific layout, resource placement and monster spawns are procedurally regenerated by the game on every descent; only the broad structure of 120 floors across three themed sections is fixed by design. (explicit canon) 1
