Overview
A mostly disused mine in the mountains of the eastern continent, worked historically for mythril ore until Shinra's synthetic alternative and an infestation of monsters made it unviable to keep working. Cloud's party passes through it and is briefly intercepted there by the Turks, Shinra's covert field agents, while tracking Sephiroth.
History
The mine is said to have been worked by the townsfolk of nearby Kalm for mythril, a metal used across the setting in weapons and armour, until Shinra Electric Power Company's development of a synthetic substitute undercut demand for the mined ore and the tunnels became infested with monsters the miners could no longer manage.
Workings
A short, single-level tunnel network — dark, mostly bare rock with occasional exposed tree roots and shafts of light from above — running between an entrance near Kalm and the Chocobo Farm in the north and an exit toward Fort Condor and Junon in the south.
What became of it
Empty of miners and occupied instead by monsters at the time of the story. While passing through, Cloud's party is intercepted by Rude and the newly promoted Elena of the Turks, with Tseng also present, who confirm they are tracking Sephiroth toward Junon Harbor before letting the party continue on.
