Goron Mines

Overview

A mine worked and inhabited by the Gorons of Death Mountain, whose patriarch Darbus was corrupted into a violent fire monster after touching a fragment of the Fused Shadow deep within it — an affliction the other Gorons could only contain by chaining him up in the mine's depths, not cure, until Link's intervention.

History

Following a disturbance in Death Mountain's volcanic activity, the Goron patriarch Darbus led a group of Gorons into the mines to investigate, where they found one of the Fused Shadows — an artefact of the usurper Zant's dark power. Darbus's touch let the Fused Shadow's corruption take hold of his mind, transforming him into a monstrous new form; his own people were left with no way to help him beyond chaining him up deep in the mines.

Workings

Beyond being the Gorons' own mine and, evidently, home to at least one Fused Shadow fragment, the sources found do not detail what the Gorons actually extract there — the dungeon's focus is entirely on Darbus's condition and its cure.

What became of it

Link defeats the corrupted Darbus, now called Fyrus, in the mine's depths; the dark power breaks away from him on defeat and he reverts to himself, remembering nothing of his transformation beyond a headache. The Goron Elders choose not to tell him a Hylian was the one who saved him.
