Overview

The crystal-lit coal mine between Routes 3 and 4 of Galar, where Rolycoly roll underfoot, Carkol run the cart tracks, Bede picks his fight, and the region's chairman once swung a pick.

History

Galar Mine is a working mine in the west of the Galar region, the Britain-shaped setting of Pokémon Sword and Shield (2019). The player passes through it early in the Gym Challenge, between Motostoke and Turffield, and it is the game's first underground area: a cave strung with minecart tracks and lit by crystals of many colours, with a bridge over the pit between the two cart tracks, carts full of gems, crates and a boarded-up tunnel at the first fork.

The mine's Pokémon are its economy. Rolycoly, the coal Pokémon, is the commonest thing in it, and its evolution Carkol runs down each cart track from the Route 3 end; Diglett, Drilbur, Roggenrola, Timburr and Woobat make up the rest. The rival Bede waits inside with Solosis, Gothita and Hatenna, and after the game is finished Oleana, Chairman Rose's secretary, can be found doing community service here: she gives out Rose's rare League Card and remarks that Rose was a miner before he founded Macro Cosmos.

In the Pokémon Adventures manga Bede's Hatenna shatters a boulder at the mine entrance to reveal three Wishing Stars, the Galar story's key mineral; in Pokémon Horizons the mine is where Liko, Roy and Friede meet a Galarian Moltres.

Workings

Minecart tracks through a crystal-lit cave, with a bridge between the two tracks, carts of gems and a boarded-up tunnel; the mine is passable from end to end and its carts are scenery rather than a working system the player uses.

Closure

Not closed.

What became of it

Working, with miners and trainers inside and Oleana sweeping it after the credits.

Canon & adaptations

The games are the canon; the manga's Wishing Stars at the entrance and the anime's Moltres are the adaptations' additions.
