Overview
A pre-War marble quarry in Fallout 4 whose company let its workers fall to their deaths while it dug ever deeper, apparently in search of an ancient temple. Two centuries later, raiders salvaging scrap for the Forged find its depths haunted.
History
Before the Great War Dunwich Borers LLC worked the quarry for marble. Its own terminal entries record a dangerous site: railings and supports were put up only where needed and replaced only when they had decayed completely, requests for more precautions were turned down, and several employees fell to their deaths while managers' complaints went unanswered. The company tried to keep the workers content with happy hours and picnics instead. The managers of the four job stations were Bob Stanson, Bradley Ramone, John Hatfield and Tim Shoots. According to the holotapes, the management's real interest lay deep below the marble: when a way through to an underground chamber was found, Shoots was told to lure the other station managers down there. About two hundred years after the war, raiders working for the Forged began stripping the quarry of scrap iron for Saugus Ironworks; when talk of the place being haunted slowed the work and then a crew vanished, their lieutenant Bedlam went down after them.
Workings
An open pit with an exterior lift and buildings, then an underground sequence of numbered job stations with terminals and circuit breakers, a huge pit, and corridors descending to a cavern at the deepest point. In flashbacks this cavern is a candlelit chamber with a marble platform and a pulpit where a robed man presides over nine kneeling figures; in the present a radioactive pool there hides a tunnel to a carved stone face and an altar bearing the knife called Kremvh's Tooth.
Closure
Abandoned at the Great War; the four station managers remain below as feral ghouls.
What became of it
Occupied by Forged-affiliated raiders on the surface and feral ghouls below; the deepest chambers shake with rumbles that grow stronger towards the bottom.
Canon & adaptations
The game tells the quarry's story through terminals, holotapes and wordless flashbacks. That the management was searching for a temple and that the station managers were sacrificed is the Fandom wiki's reading of the holotapes; the Independent Fallout Wiki describes the flashbacks without drawing that conclusion.
