What happened
Jed Lucan led a team of miners deeper into the workings despite the ground around them being considered too wet to safely support the work. A pipe burst, flooding the tunnel and trapping several miners, including John Chen. Rather than attempt a rescue or stay with the trapped men, Jed chose to save himself and the rest of the crew, leaving the seven trapped miners to die.
Aftermath
None at the time: Typhon made a deal with Jed to cover up the accident and his own role in it, and he was publicly credited as a hero for saving the miners he brought out rather than blamed for those he left behind.
