What happened

On the night of 28 April 2019, Alex Chen, her brother Gabe, and their friend Ryan Lucan searched the mountain above Haven Springs for a missing local boy, Ethan Lambert, who had wandered into the old mine workings. With an inspection of Typhon's operations looming, the company had already decided to destroy the remaining physical evidence of the flooding disaster from roughly a decade earlier, timing a second, unscheduled blast to be covered by a legitimate scheduled one that same night. Gabe called Typhon's blast crew to report that people were still out on the mountain and to have the scheduled blast cancelled; under pressure from Jed Lucan and others aware of the cover-up, the crew let the blast go ahead regardless. Alex reached Ethan and brought him to safety, but the explosion triggered a landslide of falling rock that swept Gabe off the mountainside to his death.
